Volunteer At the Point in Time Count
Point in Time is a 24-hour annual survey of the homeless community in greater Birmingham. Point in Time is a vital tool for gathering information about our homeless community, including the number and demographics of people experiencing homelessness on any given night. Around 100 volunteers, accompanied by experienced street team leaders, will go into shelters, under overpasses, and to known homeless camps to administer brief, voluntary surveys. The Point in Time count is vital for tracking trends in homelessness and identifying gaps in services.
Point in Time 2016 will take place the night of January 27 from 6 pm to 10 pm and from 9 am to 5 pm on January 28.
Volunteer At Project Homeless Connect
Project Homeless Connect is a full day of services designed to remove barriers to safe, dignified, affordable housing. At Project Homeless Connect, individuals experiencing homelessness have access to state ID, medical care, legal services, housing services, and more. Around 1,000 volunteers are needed to serve as smiling faces client guides to provide hospitality and to help guide guests at PHC through all the services they would like to access.
Volunteer At Cardboard Connect
Cardboard City is an annual overnight event presented in partnership with YouthServe designed to educate Birmingham youth about homelessness. Youth participants will play awareness games, complete a service project that benefits the homeless community in greater Birmingham, participate in a homelessness simulation, listen to a panel of formerly homeless speakers and service providers, and eat a shelter-style meal.
40 adult volunteers are needed to serve as group leaders, to supervise youth participants, to play roles in the Cardboard City homelessness simulation, and to spend the night.
Cardboard Connect 2016 will take place on March 19-20.
