  • Point-in-Time is an annual mini-census of the homeless community on a single night in January. It provides important information that helps our community better understand the needs of the people experiencing homelessness and how we can better work to make central Alabama a place where no man, woman, or child has to experience homelessness.

    This count is impossible without the help of hundreds of volunteers conducting surveys with people experiencing homelessness. Upcoming PIT Count is on January 23-24, 2024

  • In partnership with YouthServe, Cardboard Connect informs youth (ages 13-18) about the reality of homelessness, the challenges facing people experiencing homelessness, and the many barriers to finding permanent affordable housing. This event will include a homeless simulation activity and a panel of experts to offer insight on how youth can help. The retreat will end with a candlelight vigil honoring those experiencing homelessness who were lost in the last year.

    This year’s Cardboard Connect is on March 16, 2024.

  • National Homeless Awareness Week is an annual program where people come together across the county to draw attention to the problems of homelessness. Participating groups spend the week holding a series of educational, service, fundraising, and advocacy events. Check out hhweek.org for more information.

    Last year’s Homeless Awareness Week was on November 13-21, 2023.

Each year, One Roof relies on volunteers for events like the Point-in-Time Count and Cardboard Connect. If you are interested in volunteering for these events, please fill out the volunteer form. As each event approaches, you will receive email notifications to register as an event volunteer.
