Education

Education and Advocacy is central to One Roof’s mission. Our team is dedicated to educating our community about the needs and services available to our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. One Roof offers Homelessness 101 training for any agency, faith based organization, or group who wishes to learn more about our agency and best practices for serving the homeless population. The homelessness simulation allows participants to get a small taste of the barriers and challenges faced by the homeless community on a daily basis.

Advocacy

Advocacy is central to One Roof’s mission. Our team is dedicated to advocating for innovative solutions to homelessness, affordable housing, and improved services for people experiencing homelessness. Advocacy is accomplished through partnerships with amazing agencies who fight on the local, state, and national level for better laws and funding to support those who are experiencing homelessness. Here are resources for other statewide and national groups that are working hard to advocate for ending homelessness and for providing safe, decent, affordable housing.

Alabama Arise is a statewide nonprofit, nonpartisan coalition of congregations, organizations and individuals united in their belief that people in poverty are suffering because of state policy decisions.

LIHCA is a coalition of Alabamians who joined together to address the housing crisis in our state and increase housing opportunities for those with the greatest financial needs.

Collaborative Solutions works in partnership for the empowerment of human service organizations and communities in order to positively impact special needs populations.

NAEH is a leading voice on the issue of homelessness. The Alliance analyzes policy and develops pragmatic, cost-effective policy solutions. The Alliance works collaboratively with the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to build state and local capacity, leading to stronger programs and policies that help communities achieve their goal of ending homelessness.

NLIHC is dedicated to solely achieving socially just public policy that ensures people with the lowest incomes in the United States have affordable and decent homes. Each year, NLIHC publishes the Advocates’ Guide to Housing and Community Development Policy to educate advocates of all kinds about the programs and policies that make housing affordable to low-income people across America.
